Starting a Home-based Business
Working From Home
“There are lions and tigers and bears, oh my!” (from The Wizard of Oz)
Working from home is the new business frontier – especially because of the promise of gold and riches to be made. It has become today’s “American Dream.” You no longer have to go into the office every day and be told what to do! Just sit down with a cup of coffee every morning in your PJs and start making money working from home. All you need is your computer – right? Well . . . let’s explore that question together.
This is definitely the siren’s song of the 21st Century. Everyday hundreds, thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of people decide to investigate the idea of working from home or starting their very own home-based business.
There are many stories of people who have made it! Some of those adventuresome souls have been marginally successful – others wildly successful.
Some of these come from the tech world and hit the ground running because they already know how to build Websites and how to navigate the Internet with ease. At the very least, they know the ins and outs of operating a computer.
Then there are others for whom this is uncharted territory. They are forced to climb a very steep learning curve; but, they are willing to do it because they think they have a great idea for an Internet business and they are sure that they can find a way to follow their dream.
To be honest, the Internet really is the great equalizer. Whether a person succeeds or fails on his/her endeavor does not seem to be closely connected to any level of formal education. The big success stories and abysmal failures belong to both high school dropouts as well as people with advanced college degrees – plus everything in-between.
Whether running a home-based business or simply working from home, there are some very specific characteristics that the successful people share.
• They are optimistic by nature and maintain a positive outlook regardless of the obstacles they face.
• They are continually learning and have the ability to stay the course when facing a steep learning curve.
• They are all self-starters – they understand that they have to get up, go to work, and stay at work every day (at least five days a week – usually more).
• They develop the necessary survival skills….because it is a jungle out there.
If you are among those who have already ventured out into the “jungle” by giving serious consideration to starting your own home-based business, or have actually taken the first steps to do so – you are obviously a self-starter.
Without an optimistic approach to life, you would never have considered the possibility of establishing a home-based business in the first place.
Obviously you are willing to learn because you are seeking information through books and articles like this one. In other words, you have already demonstrated some of the necessary characteristics required to be successful; however, you must be prepared because it is not easy.
Establishing an Internet business is the equivalent of entering a wild jungle – a wild electronic jungle. To steal a line from The Wizard of Oz, “There are lions and tigers and bears, oh my!” Survival and success in this jungle will be dependent on your ability to master the necessary survival skills.
