The phrase “Internet traffic” is used to describe the amount of electronic data sent and received on a particular web site. In order to be successful with an online business, you must be a master at driving web traffic to your site. You need visitors to come often, be enticed to stay, and take action while they are there.

When thinking about electronic data traveling via the internet, it is easier to understand if you picture in your mind busy highways with drivers going to and from certain destinations.  As with the highways, there can be everything from free-flowing, smooth Internet traffic to heavy congestion that slows down the flow.

For that reason, it is important to note there are limits to the amount of traffic that each web hosting service can handle. You must choose carefully.

If your goal is to become an active online marketer with a website that generates a lot of traffic, be sure the web hosting service you select is capable of accommodating heavy traffic in order to avoid massive congestion on your site.

Goal: Steady Stream of Visitors

Web traffic is determined by the number of visitors and the number of pages they visit. You want a steady stream of visitors on a daily basis.

Lots of traffic means that many people are visiting the website. More views (visitors) results in more opportunities to make sales.

Monitor Your Traffic

It is also important to monitor the incoming and outgoing traffic to see which parts or pages of your site(s) are popular, how long each visitor stays on the site, and if there are any noticeable trends. For example: Is a specific page being viewed primarily by a particular demographic or by people in a particular country?

It is not only important to develop effective techniques that attract visitors to your website, it is important to find ways to keep them long enough to take the action you want them to take.

And . . . . collecting traffic data will be critical in order to know which techniques are working and which are not so that you can refine your techniques and become increasingly successful in reaching your monetary goals.
