Have you ever been the recipient of a small act of kindness that made everything better? This is my story of such an incident.

OMG! The connecting tip of the cord for my computer broke off!

Now what do I do? My writing was just beginning to flow!

For the previous five months I had invested every hour of the day and thousands of dollars in developing my skill so I could write better blog posts and start my next book.

As I sat there staring at the broken cord in my hand I wanted to give up and never write another word.

Through my carelessness, I had broken off the tip of the battery charging cord inside that tiny little connection hole in my computer.

There was no way to get it out.

In desperation, I grabbed my computer, jumped into my car, and drove to Staples fearful of what the cost would be to solve the problem.

A Hero Appears

I must have looked terrible because the young man who met me at the door said, “Can I help you with something?”

My reply was, “I have a BIG problem!” I handed him my computer and explained what happened.

He responded, “No problem, I’ll fix it for you,” and he went to work.  I couldn’t watch because I was convinced he couldn’t do it.

I paced around the store as he tried everything he could think of to get the broken plug out of the tiny little hole. Fifteen minutes later he was still working.

I was frantic. With a big smile he calmly said, “Somehow, I will take care of this. Don’t worry!”

I thought it was impossible, but he did it!

WOW!

But, that wasn’t the end of the story.

I thought I needed a new cord and asked him where to find it. His surprising response was, “All you really need is a two-pronged tip that will fit your computer. Let’s see if we have one.”

He asked the tech to pull out a box of tips. Much to my surprise, he found one quickly, handing it to me as he said, “Here you go, no charge!”

The problem was fixed and it hadn’t cost me a penny.

The young clerk had no idea how his calm act kindness had affected me. I went home relieved and happy, ready to write!

I hope that somehow I can pay his kindness forward!

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. (Aesop) Click To Tweet
